Life Revers'eau - Study on the mobilisation of stakeholders in projects to restore ecological continuity

Background

The river Gesvres is a watercourse characterised by the presence of native Fario trout. One of the limiting factors for achieving good water status of the river Gesvres is linked to ecological continuity (fish and sediment). One work in particular, locally going by the name “ the cascade” is identified in the list of obstacles to water flow . This 17th Century work was created to cross the watercourse in the grounds of the Gesvres’ Castle built in 1653 by César Renouard. It is an object of local heritage for the residents of Treillières, who campaigned to preserve it.

Objective

The objectives of this action are to:
– Conduct a study to more effectively take account of sociological obstacles and levers, how the river is perceived by the various stakeholders and the acceptability of watercourse restoration projects.
– Develop a supporting methodology for complex watercourse restoration projects.
– Closely study the obstacles and levers to be mobilised for adaptation of the structure on the river Gesvres.
– Disseminate the new knowledge.

Description of the action

This action is broken down into several sections:

1- Formalisation of a supporting methodology for complex watercourse restoration projects (obstacles and drivers) based on the work in the Gesvres.

The work undertaken will serve to take into account the local lore in order to highlight the social representations of the work.

2– Consultation with local stakeholders to identify obstacles but also levers to be mobilised. In order to define works’ scenarios to potentially be carried out on the Gesvres’s work

It involves setting a local consultation process in motion (participative workshops, public debates etc.).

Definition of a supporting methodology for complex watercourse restoration projects.

Definition of potential works’ scenarios

Awareness-raising among 2 to 5% of people living in Treillières, of elected town council representatives and EGDC elected representatives.

High school students are the actors of tomorrow. This is the reason why the Pays de la Loire Regional Council, from the conception of the LIFE IP REVERS’EAU, stated its will to raise awareness on the challenges of water preservation among high schools

Capitalization workshop with partners for the 2 years of the LIFE REVERS’EAU project.

On the afternoon of February 28, 2023, the partners of the LIFE REVERS’EAU project met at the Hôtel de Région in Nantes to exchange with the LIFE REVERS’EAU project team and collectively take stock of the past two years.

Removal of the Hunaudières Dam

Removal of the pool, restoration of the stream bank area, creation of ponds and a wetland, etc. Work was carried out on a tributary of the Chéran.
