through the Loire Water Conference

Mobilization of stakeholders

Background

Recovering the quality of water and aquatic environments in the Pays de la Loire region requires mobilisation of all stakeholders.

The Loire Water Conference is co-managed by the Prefect of the Region, and the President of the Regional Council. It aims to inform the stakeholders in the Pays de la Loire region about water issues and priorities given to recovery of water status. It also aims to encourage dialogue with and between stakeholders of the Pays de la Loire region and neighbouring regions.

The Loire Water Conference brings together representatives from local authorities (town halls, district councils, counties, regions), French State services (departmental, regional and ministries for the environment, agriculture, the economy etc.), consular bodies (agriculture, commerce, etc.), water stakeholders (basin boards, public river basin organisations, local water committees etc.), economic stakeholders (business-support organisations, clusters, cooperatives, businesses, syndicates, etc.) and stakeholders of civil society (consumer protection agencies, leisure not-for-profit organisations etc.).

The first conference took place on 29 May 2018 and it is scheduled to take place yearly here on in.

Objective

The objectives of this action are to:
– Develop the Loire Water Conference format to make it a voting body
– Bring together more and more diverse stakeholders

Description of the action

This action is broken down into several sections:

1- Conference change of format and by-laws

This involves identifying the future format in which the conference will be organised. Also, a proposal will be made for new by-laws, rules of representation, voting rules and operating rules.

2- Work on the link with regional policies

Work will be undertaken to set up links. They link decisions taken during the conference to the policies implemented at regional level.
