The remit of the Vilaine EPTB comprises the Vilaine river catchment which extends over 2 Regions (Brittany and Pays de la Loire) and 6 départements: Côtes d’Armor, Ile-et-Vilaine, Loire-Atlantique, Morbihan, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne.
The objectives of the Vilaine EPTB are:
- to stimulate, facilitate and participate in the balanced, sustainable management of the water resource
- to prevent flooding and provide defence against coastal flooding;
- to preserve, manage and restore the biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems, wetlands and watercourses.
The Vilaine EPTB contributes to securing drinking water supply, especially through the Vilaine Atlantique production plant in Férel, the largest in Brittany, supplying and securing a vast area from Saint Nazaire to Vannes, through La Baule, Redon and Rennes in the near future.
The Vilaine EPTB acts in tandem with the remits of local stakeholders (whether members of the Vilaine EPTB or not). It contributes to the implementation of regional management schemes for natural areas, regional development and economic and social development.
The Vilaine EPTB falls within the LIFE REVERS’EAU project through two actions: one on the sustainable management of the resource with regard to climate change (C4 action) and the other on the river basin headwaters, areas that are especially fragile and representative of the Pays de la Loire regional area (C7 action).
