The European Commission has approved the inclusion of Le Mans Métropole as a new associate beneficiary of the LIFE REVERS’EAU project. This local authority joins a strong group of 13 partners committed to restoring water quality.
Le Mans Métropole is carrying out an ambitious project to restore the ecological continuity of the Huisne at Le Mans. At present, the Huisne, which flows through the center of Le Mans, meets four dams. A feasibility study has been carried out to determine the possible improvements in view of the current uses of this watercourse. Of the 4 existing dams, two will be removed and two will be equipped with fish passes. The overall project will cost 6.5 million euros and run until 2027.
The LIFE REVERS’EAU project will subsidize the first part of the work: the fish pass at the Epau dam, as well as the communication campaigns needed to raise awareness of the Pontlieue dam removal and promotional activities at the Maison de l’Eau.
This is a flagship action in the LIFE REVERS’EAU project, due to its scale and urban location. What’s more, this action includes a water governance aspect: within the framework of this action, 5 different departments will work together (water, nature in the city, nature arch, architecture and energy-climate).
